Christian Nationalism — We Must Be Prepared to Fight for Our Future and Our Values
Christian Nationalism represents a dangerous fusion of one type of Christian witness with extreme political positions. The question before us is this: should Christianity be the moral framework that supports American values and actions, or should it be used as a weapon to shape, conform, and coerce public policy according to right-wing political positions?
Call to Action Metro NY believes that speaking the language of our faith while advocating compassionate public policies is a good thing. Faith teachings should not be weaponized to force compliance on believers of other faith traditions.
Did you know? In a recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), three out of ten Americans either adhere to or are sympathetic toward Christian Nationalism. Christian Nationalists are more likely to support political violence to “save” our country and to hold more extreme views about immigrants than other Americans.

Are we going to let these conservative Christian leaders hijack Christianity and fuse it with right-wing politics, then preach that this is God’s will? This country’s founders rejected the European model of religious monopoly in favor of pluralism — for a more perfect union. Christian Nationalism offers anti-pluralist, authoritarian views of government. Its adherents ask us to regard religious diversity as an evil that must be fought with an iron fist. They select Bible verses to suit their arguments — it is less about religion and more about the pursuit of power. Their worldview is racist, as well as dependent on the subjugation of any group not favored by their interpretation of Bible passages.
Christian Nationalism seeks to distract us from authoritarian, anti-democratic threats in politics today. Faith should not be a weapon to browbeat those with whom you disagree. We reject their worldview, and continue to endeavor to call for a society in which people from all religious traditions are free to worship.
